THANK YOU !
To the 5000+ cyclists who rode the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight on Sunday 18th February, the 30th edition of this exciting road race. Through the generous donations of the cyclist the Donation Draw raised R39 920.00 and this amount will be matched by the Dis-Chem Foundation resulting in a great total of R79 840.00.
These funds will help needy families to pay for genetic testing to ensure their children are not left out of promising therapy trials. All other proceeds support genetic research to find treatments for retinal blindness which is being conducted at the University of Cape Town.
The winner of the fantastic holiday at the Sugar Beach resort in Mauritius is Mlando Cuiton Mlaba, and we thank World Leisure Holidays who donated this prize. Winner of the Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort holiday is Adolph Krige. Thanks to the Cousins family for this sponsorship. The R30K prize was won by a delighted Katinka Ellerbeck. This prize was to thank the cyclists for their ongoing support of the event which raises funds to find treatments for retinal blinding conditions.
Congratulations to Reynard Butler winner of the 116 km Super Classic event [ 2:39:55] and the Ernest Hunt Trophy- the oldest cycling trophy in South Africa still in use. The Ladies event was won by the new SA Ladies Road Champ Carla Oberholzer [3:40:07]. Winner of the vita- Thion 62km Challenge was Stuart Biesheavel. Congratulations to all the category and lucky draw prize winners but the real winners on Sunday were the thousands of South Africans racing against time to save their vision.
