CYCLE TO RESTORE THE GIFT OF SIGHT
The Dis-Chem Ride for Sight 2022 will be held on Sunday, 20 February 2022.
The organisers will do everything possible to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride – maintaining the high standard that cyclists have come to expect from one of the oldest events on the South African road cycling calendar.
The event will be presented utilizing the ride-through model – featuring a seeded batched start, ride, finish & then head directly for home. This is obviously to ensure the safety of all the cyclists.
Strict Covid protocols will be implemented in the presentation of the event. For this reason, we are encouraging entrants to be Covid vaccine compliant in line with regulations now under consideration.
Online entries will open http://www.cycleevents.co.za on 1st December.
Each pre-entrant will receive a free Velotex facemask.
Fully vaccinated riders can collect their race packs at any of the three registration venues:
- CycleLab Lynwood on Thursday, 17th February
- CycleLab Fourways on Friday, 18th February; and
- CycleLab Boksburg on Saturday, 19th
Covid screening will be in place and riders will need to present their vaccine certificate (not SMS) and ID.
Non-vaccinated & partially vaccinated riders can only register at CycleLab Boksburg on Saturday, 19th February – the day before the event. They will have to present an official negative PCR test which is not older than 48 hours. Alternatively, they may do an on-site Rapid Antigen Test at the Saturday registration venue at their own cost.
Current restrictions will determine that the number of participants which will unfortunately be significantly less than what we have traditionally been accustomed to. We trust that you will support us in the implementation of the legislated protocols which are ultimately focused on the safety and well-being of individuals.
Lucky draw prizes will be managed online and all pre-entrants will be eligible to win.
The popular event Donation Draw will take place once again with a super Road bike from CycleLab currently being one of the prizes up for the taking. More details to follow in future event Newsflashes.
The cancellation of this year’s event severely reduced our grant towards the genetic project at the University of Cape Town. This project identifies the genetic mistake causing retinal blindness in thousands of South Africans. Proceeds from the 2022 event will once again fund tests for our most vulnerable young patients – ensuring their access to imminent treatments to stop their vision loss.
Thank you in anticipation for your continued support and we look forward to hosting you once again on 20th February.
Thank you for your continued support.
